Thermal spray metallizing involves applying a molten zinc coating directly onto the steel, creating sacrificial galvanic protection. Industrial painting includes liquid coatings (epoxy, polyurethane, alkyd) that form a protective barrier.

Both approaches can be combined in a duplex system to maximize durability. The choice depends on the exposure environment, contractual requirements, and the desired service life. Our team will recommend the system best suited to your project.

This is the mechanism that makes metallizing particularly effective. The zinc applied to the steel acts as a sacrificial anode: it corrodes preferentially in place of the underlying steel. In practical terms, even if the coating suffers an impact or localized damage, corrosion protection remains active around the damaged area.

It is this dual mechanism, physical barrier and galvanic protection, that allows for service lives of 20 to over 50 years.

No coating, however high-performing, will hold on a poorly prepared surface. Abrasive blasting (sandblasting) removes rust, old coatings, and contaminants, then creates a surface roughness profile that allows the coating to adhere properly.

At Peinture d'Hauterive, this step is carried out with recycled steel grit in a dedicated shop. The quality of the preparation is verified before every application.

This is the highest level of certification in AMPP's Coating Inspector Program (formerly NACE International). A certified NACE Level 3 inspector has in-depth expertise in coating inspection and can supervise inspections independently.

Peinture d'Hauterive has an inspector holding this certification, which ensures rigorous quality control on every project carried out in our shops.

Our shops can accommodate parts up to 185 feet long, and our lifting capacity reaches 170,000 lb. These capabilities allow us to handle large-scale structural components: bridge beams, pylons, highway interchange structures, and other infrastructure elements. If you have parts with special dimensions, contact our team to confirm feasibility.

At the start of a contract, we prepare and provide a detailed work and inspection procedure. Throughout the project, critical steps are inspected using laboratory-calibrated equipment. At the end of the work, a complete inspection report is provided to you. Calibration certificates for our equipment are also available upon request.

SN-29.3J is a specific coating system required by Hydro-Québec for certain of its structures. Peinture d'Hauterive is an approved applicator of this system, meaning we have been qualified to apply it in accordance with Hydro-Québec's technical requirements.
